HEARING AIDS Rotary International District 9750 Hearing Aids project

What happens to all those expensive hearing aids that are no longer required by their owners ?
Do they just get discarded or sit at the bottom of a drawer ?

The Rotary Club of Haberfield, together with Professor Phillip Newall and the Department of Audiology at Macquarie University, can recycle these discarded hearing aids to children and adults overseas who otherwise would not be able to afford a hearing aid.

It is hoped that the International Service Directors of each club will collect any discarded hearing aids and forward them to the Rotary Club of Haberfield. The Rotary Club will take them to Macquarie University where audiology students will check and service the hearing aids. The useable hearing aids will then be sent to The Philippines.

Additionally, a special programme is being established at St Tomas University in Manila. In a project supported by the Rotary Club of Haberfield, two audiologists will be trained at Macquarie University so that they can test the children and adults and then fit the hearing aids appropriately. Hopefully a separate fund to provide batteries for very needy recipients will also be established.

There are children in The Philippines who have moderate or severe hearing losses which can be rectified by a hearing aid. Sadly, some of these children come from families who are too poor to buy hearing aids or even pay for the batteries. These children may never talk or receive any effective education. A correctly fitted and maintained hearing aid can literally transform their lives. For adults, a hearing aid can mean the difference between being able to work or having to beg for food.

Please support this new Rotary project and send any discarded hearing aids to the:
Rotary Club of Haberfield,
PO Box 14, Haberfield, NSW 2045.

or ...
Rotary Club Presidents can bring collected hearing aids to a Presidents Meeting, to be passed on to the Rotary Club of Haberfield, a member of Rotary District 9750.
