Rotarians are reminded that personal information contained in Rotary publications such as the Rotary International Directory, District Directory or Club directories, whether published annually or from time to time in Club bulletins are "strictly private. They are to facilitate the free communication between Rotarians for Rotary purposes and nothing else."
I must bring to your attention the provisions of the Rotary International Manual of Procedure, which states as follows:
" The primary purpose of
Rotary publications is to advance the Object of Rotary ".
Personal information contained in such publications is for the
convenience of Rotarians and to expedite the work of Rotary and
not for any other purpose. You will find on the first page of the
current District Directory a notice to users in the following
terms:
"IMPORTANT: This directory is for the personal use of Rotary Club Members. It may not be distributed to other parties nor used for commercial purposes by any person or organisation."
I advise all clubs to include this notice in local membership lists also.
The use of Rotary publications in this way undermines our organisation by making members reluctant to provide contact information for publication. Were this attitude to become widespread the work of Rotary would be seriously impeded. People providing contact information for Rotary use have a right to expect that this information will be used only for the purpose intended.

too.
Member's personal contact information should be kept to a minimum,
but enough for the public and other Rotarians to make contact.
What is published on the site should have the member's permission
to do so.
All Rotarian contact information published on this District site
has been with the express permission of the member involved. For
any aspect they did not feel was necessary, that information has
not been published.
