Barney is a Charter Member of RC Sydney CBD (previously a member of RC Sydney). He was Chairman of the New Model Rotary Club Pilot Project, a founding member of the District Indigenous Australian Goodwill Committee and founding Chairman of the District Multicultural Awareness Committee. In 2007 he chaired the District Committee that participated in the Inaugural Sydney Christmas Parade, a major PR undertaking involving a Rotary Bus, cash collections and sausage sizzle in support of ARHRF.

Born in Sabah Malaysia, Barney came to Sydney as a high school student. His academic achievements include a MA (Hons) and Ph.D degrees. His early career was in the clothing and textile industry and property development. More recently, he was CEO of a land development company as well as teaching at university part-time. Barney's interests include sailing, beach-walking, movies, reading, church and travel.

He has been married to Lorraine for 37 years, a former secretary. She was born in Sydney and comes from a Rotary family. Lorraine is a Friend of Rotary (Sydney CBD). They have 3 married children, Melinda to Luke, Ben to Ekayi, Terry to Madeleine and have 2 grandsons, Isaac and Oliver. Barney and Lorraine are Companions of ARHRF and support our Rotary Foundation in the Major Donor category.
